Thomas Day Shannahan, Jr. attended elementary schools in both Bethlehem and Catasauqua, and Jr. and Sr. High in Bethlehem, PA. He graduated from Bethlehem High School in 1948 and went to Lehigh University after spending one semester at Western Maryland College. In 1953 he received his Bachelor’s degree from the Business School at Lehigh University with a major in Finance. He served two years in the U.S. Army in Panama rising to the rank of staff sergeant. In 1955 he entered the loop training course for Bethlehem Steel Corporation. He worked in the Transportation Department for 28 years, retiring in 1982.

Thomas D. Shannahan, Jr., 87 years, of Bethlehem died September 1st, 2017 at his residence in Kirkland Village. He was the husband of Anita C. (Calkins) Shannahan of Kirkland Village and they celebrated 61 years of marriage together this past March. Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Thomas D. Sr. and Mary (McKee) Shannahan.
Thomas was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem where he served as a former Deacon and Trustee. Thomas graduated from Lehigh University in 1953. He worked for over 28 years in the Transportation Department of the Bethlehem Steel Company before retiring in 1982. Thomas served in the Army during the Korean War where he was stationed in Panama from 1953-1955. Thomas also volunteered at the Lehigh University alumni office and for the Northampton County Meals on Wheels for many years.
Surviving along with his wife Anita are his children, son Thomas D. III and wife Cheryl; daughter Carol Anita Shannahan; grandson Ryan Thomas Shannahan; sister Molly Taylor and husband Peter; and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 am Friday, September 8th, 2017 at the 1st Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem,
