Norris' 4-2-0 Locomotive, probably Birmingham and Gloucester Railway, 1839-42

 

 

From Wescott:

 

From an original water-colour by E. T. Lane, dated 6/29/1849. An American-designed engine, with front bogie and bar frame. The B. & G. R. had forty of these, made between 1838 and 1840, and the example shown was probably built by the Nasmyth firm in England. Cylinders probably 11 in. by 20 in. Boiler pressure c. 55 lb. per sq. in. Wheelbase 9 ft. 6 in. Outside connected drive gear. Four eccentric valve gear.
