SOLVEIG HORN Memorial Service Wednesday
A joint memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 1979 at the St. James Lutheran Church in Huntingdon for Solveig (Wald) Horn,64, and James Melchior Horn, 23, who died Monday, January 8, 1979, in a fire that destroyed their home in Alexandria. Friends will be received by the family in the social hall of the church after the ceremony. Interment will be made in the Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Solveig (Wald) Horn, wife of John Chisolm Horn of Alexandria was born in Philadelphia on October 14, 1914. a daughter of John R. and Emma G. Wald. The Horns were united in marriage on June 22,1938. Surviving her are her husband and the following children: Phyllis Downing Horn of Greer, S.C.; John Chisolm Horn, Jr., and Thomas Wald Horn of Boulder, Colo.; Eric Laurens Horn of Pacific Palisades, Calif.; and Dorothy Trail Horn of Redondo Beach, Calif. Preceding her in death were two sons. Robert Gregg Horn and Stephen Lunde Horn. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Joel Adam Horn and Brian Fitzgerald Horn. Two sisters and three brothers also survive: Phyllis Henry of Huntingdon; Audrey Barron of Lewistown; John R. Wald, Jr., of Flemington, N.J.; and Richard Wald and Roll Wald of Los Angeles, Calif.
In 1936 she received her A.B. degree from Cornell University where she was also a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. 
As a Lone Girl Scout, she earned the Golden Eaglet Award and in 1936 she participated in Girl Guide training in England. She has been a Brownie leader and served 18 years on the executive board of three girl scout councils, including six years in leader training. Solveig served 16 years as a Cub Scout den mother of Pack 24, Alexandria and earned the Scouter's training award from the Juniata Valley Council. She was a member of the National Cub Scout Development Committee from 1970 to the present. The Boy Scouts of America awarded her the Silver Fawn and the Silver Antelope for distinguished service to boyhood. She was the first woman scouter in the Northeast Region to receive the Silver Antelope. In 1975 she was elected to the Northeast Regional Board of' the Boy Scouts of America and was consultant on Scouting to the Central Pennsylvania Lutheran Synod.
Mrs. Horn was treasurer of Church Management Service of Huntingdon and with her husband was engaged in management programs for churches and clergy throughout the nation. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church where she was a soloist in the choir and for over ten years gave leadership to campus ministry.
She was on the board of the Huntingdon Developmental Workshop, was a past director of the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, was a community leader in many other areas as well, and recently received the 5 - gallon donor award from the Red Cross. She is listed in the “Who‘s Who of American Women.”
