Allen. J. Reichard, son of Joseph and Florenda Reichard, proprietor of the American hotel at Walberts, was born March 1858, in South Whitehall township. At the age of eighteen years he learned the shoe-making trade and this he followed on the homestead of his father for eighteen years and afterwards he farmed for several years, and in 1910 he engaged in the hotel business at the above place.

He was a school director of South Whitehall Township for seven years. He is a member of the J. O. U. A. M., of Wescoesville; the South Whitehall Beneficial Association and the Order of Buffaloes. In 1882 he married Laura Butz, and they have the following children: Harvey J., Oliver J., Ervin S. (deceased), Edna E. E., Beulah F., Florence L., Hattie M., and Bertha J.
