Misc. Notes
Louise A. Leisenring, 1327 Turner St., Allentown, female probation officer of Lehigh county for 24 years, died April 2, 1945, at Sacred Heart hospital, aged 65 years. Burial was made in Allentown cemetery. She was stricken ill a few days before her death while spending the Easter holidays with her sister, Mrs. John S. Correll, Easton.
Miss Leisenring was probation officer since Jan. 24, 1921, and at a session of the Lehigh county court on the day of her death the following memorial was read from the bench by Judge James F. Henninger: "We note with deep sorrow the sudden passing of our loyal and faithful female probation officer, Miss Louise Leisenring. Since Jan. 24, 1921, Miss Leisenring has been a most conscientious officer of this court."
A native of Allentown, she was a daughter of Captain Thomas R and Annie E., nee Weiser, Leisenring, and a descendant of families resident in this area since colonial days. Most of her life was devoted to social work.
For many years Miss Leisenring was secretary of the Associated Charities, which predated the present Family Welfare organization.
During her years as the county's female probation officer she dealt with hundreds of cases involving juvenile delinquency, and through her untiring efforts to conciliate differences between parents and their daughters she kept more than 50 per cent of such cases from ever reaching juvenile court.
She was a member of Allentown Quota club, which she served as president in 1943 and as treasurer in 1939; Allen Circle, Ladies of the G.A.R., Ladies' auxiliary of Mien Commandery, Knights Templar, and Grace Episcopal church.
She had a sister, Abbie, widow of John S. Correll, Easton, and a brother, Peter W. Leisenring of Emmaus, national advertising manager of the Call-Chronicle Newspapers.
