WILLIAM HENRY REICHARD, eldest son of Edwin R. Reichard, spent his youth and young manhood upon his father's farm, meantime acquiring his education in the public schools. When he attained manhood, he learned the milling business, and entered the employ of a company where he stayed 18 months, then traveled in the West or about a year then returned to Lehigh county; was for 18 months in the Strauss mill, near Allentown, then became manager of Adam Stoudt's flour mill at Shoemakersville, where he continued for two years. He afterward formed a partnership with a Mr. Gross, and operated the flour mill at Palm Station, under the name of Palm Milling Co. They operated it for two years, when it was destroyed by fire, which caused a loss of upwards of $4000. Mr. Reichard became manager of the mill of Francis Weiss, continuing for two years, when he entered the machine shop department of the Bethlehem Steel works, where he remained for four years. He filled responsible positions successfully with various firms, after which, in 1905, he was appointed superintendent of the Allentown Water Works, which position he has filled with general satisfaction up to the present time (1915). In politics he is a Democrat. He served as a member of the city council for two terms, resigning his office to accept the position of superintendent of the water works. He is a member of the Modem Woodmen of America; of St. Luke's Lutheran church, serving as deacon and treasurer. He has saved as superintendent of the Sunday school, and is now a teacher therein.
William Henry Reichard married in January 1881 Melissa Wenner, daughter of Charles and Julia (Gangewere) Wenner. Issue: (1) Essie; (2) Emily C.; (3) Jennie R.; (4) Eva M.; (5) William E.; and (6) Laura May Reichard.
