He was a carpenter by trade and trained in Great Britain, learning how to make wagons and wagon wheels. Later, he made wooden bodies for some of the earliest trucks in the Hartford, CT area. His license says that he was a commercial body builder. Subsequently, John worked for A.F. Peaslee and Company in Hartford where he was the lead foreman. He and his crew built additions to the present day Hartford Hospital. We have a photo of a wonderful trunk John made by hand. John loved to fish. There are wonderful old photos of him and his wife Nellie in their fishing gear. John died of congestive heart failure December 21, 1976, at age 90.

Raised on a farm near Bristol, England. Came to America twice, once on the steamship Majestic. Cut ice on Susquehanna River with cousin from Afton, NY. Entered into business with man named Bewart at 22.5 Bliss st. Hartford. Made wagon wheels for the Meech Grain Co. Then had own business as carpenter during which time he ceveloped a pattern for the Colt Co. "C" used in their logo. Later, returned to Bliss St. and worked on truck bodies. Then entered building trade and headed a crew on the Hartford Hospital construction job. Built residential housing. Built his retirement house in Westbrook, CT. Retired in the '40s
