John graduated from Weaver High School and then matriculated at the Morse School of Business in Hartford where he studied accounting and business administration. He then worked at Colts Firearms in Hartford in the advertising department for eight years. While there, he was in charge of a $50,000 petty cash drawer. Subsequently he was employed as a bookkeeper for eight years at Emerson Radio and Television Distributors and then at American Distributors and the Verplex Company. He was the credit manager at Verplex. Then John went to work for Uarco in Deep River, CT, He worked there in the order department for twenty-four years before his retirement. John says it was the best job he ever had. John loves to play golf and he has a green thumb when it comes to gardening. He is also well known as quite a handiman.
