Clarence was the grandson of William Eberman, and son of Jacob Eberman, who was born on the island of St. Croix to missionary parents.He was ordained into the Moravian ministry on Sunday, July 6, 1884. (Every year July 6th is an important day in Moravian Church history; that being the date the martyrdom of John Hus (ca. 1369-1415) is celebrated. C.E. Eberman entered the United States at Ellis Island, New York on January 25, 1892 sailing on The Trinidad, whose last port-of-call was Bermuda, where he was taken onboard. He travelled throughout the USA & Canada, conducting conventions and conferences on behalf of Christian Endeavor. It was on such a tour across Canada that he was stricken with typhoid fever; hence his death in Banff at an early age. At the time of his death, he was "the most widely known Moravian clergyman in the United States." His obituary also appeared in The New York Times on April 14, 1903. He wrote the Consecration Hymn, just two years before his death.He died on Easter Sunday.
