Henry W. Bittner was born in Jordan Valley, Heidelberg Township, Aug. 1, 1863. He attended the local schools until ten years of age, when he was hired out on farms till he was twenty years old, then he went to Philadelphia and learned telegraphy. After a years service in the P. R. R. Station at Witmers, near Lancaster, he found the work too confining, resigned and engaged for four years in the manufacture of cigars at Philadelphia. He then embarked in the wholesale produce business on a commission basis, in which he has continued ever since. He married Jennie L, daughter of Morris Trexler, of Lehighton. They are the parents of these children: Raymond and Madaline.
