Valentine G. "Val" Zellers, 82, of East Brady, went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010, at Golden Living Center, Shippenville, Pa.
He was born Aug. 14, 1928, in Allentown, Pa., a son of the late Harry A. and Mabel (Guldin) Zellers.
He was a 1946 graduate of Allentown High School, earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1950 and earned a Master of Education from Pennsylvania State University in 1953.
He loved traveling, football and enjoyed hanging Christmas lights in his yard. He taught business at East Brady High School from 1950 to 1955, was East Brady High School principal from 1955 to 1958, East Brady High School supervising principal from 1958 to 1966, assistant superintendent in charge of business affairs for Armstrong School District from 1966 to 1970 and retired as dean of business and fiscal affairs for Butler Community College from 1970 to 1985 .
He also drove Shriver School Bus from 1985 to 1998.
He was a member of the Queenstown Methodist Church. Survivors include one son, Larry B. Zellers and his wife, Ann, of Burgettstown; two daughters, Linda Shofestall and her husband, Daniel, of Summerville, Pa., and Valerie L. Sherman and her husband, Clifford, of East Brady; stepmother, Pearl T. Zellers, of Allentown; also survived by four grandchildren, Emily Sherman, of East Brady, Haley Sherman, of East Brady, Christopher Shofestall, of Summerville, and Ricky Simpson and his wife, Tori, of Corsica, Pa.; two great-grandchildren, Jarod Simpson, of Corsica, and Abby Simpson, of Corsica; first wife, Helen S. (Zurfluh) Zellers, of East Brady; and second wife, Genevieve P. (Wiles) Zellers, of East Brady.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Kramer; half brother, Harry S. Diehl; and companion of 14 years, Valetta Claypoole. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the CHARLES B. BUECHELE FUNERAL HOME, 105 Fourth St., East Brady. Funeral at 3 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home with the Rev. Craig Smith, pastor of the Mt. Jewett/Hazelhurst United Methodist Church, officiating. Memorials: to the donor's favorite charity.
