Simeon P. Vallerchamp was the son of Azima, a nobleman of rank and influence in the royal court of France. When Simeon was young they resided in Paris, where he was finely educated in the demands of the day and times, especially in languages and literature, being able to read and write in seven languages. He came to America with General Lafayette and took part in the War of the Revolution, and was on the staff of Lafayette. He was wounded at the battle of Monmouth and carried balls in his body as long as he lived, they finally causing his death very suddenly. After the war he returned to Paris and remained two years. On his return to this country his ship encountered a British warship, and in the attack, when he found his ship would be lost, he jumped overboard and swam ashore, losing his all, but found refuge and aid. He returned to this country soon after.

He married, first Janica Bertrand, daughter of General Bertrand, who then lived near Philadelphia. By this union he had several children. His second wife was Hannah Dodson, one child being the result of this union, Rev. Azima Vallerchamp, who was twenty years of age when his father died.
