Misc. Notes
ANDREW ALBRIGHT was a gunmaker by trade, and after practicing his business in Halberstadt, Prussia, in 1741, became armorer to a regiment from that town, which served in Silesia and Bohemia during the war of the Austrian succession. In 1750, after hearing Count Zinzendorf preach at Halle, he came to America with a band of young Moravians, and commenced his trade at Christian's Spring in Northampton county. Here his guns became famous, and they were among the first manufactured in the Province. Later, in the service of the Moravian Church he became instructor of music at Nazareth Hall, and in 1766, presided over the Sun Inn at Bethlehem. In 1771 he removed to Lititz, where he resumed the making of guns. During the war of the Revolution, Lancaster county became the center of a brisk production of arms; and it is a fact that more guns were manufactured there than in all the Colonies together. Others engaged in the business were Judge William Henry, the Lefevres, Vondersmiths, etc., of Lancaster town. Mr. Albright d. April 19, 1802, at Lititz, Pa.
