Dr. Palmer J. Kress, scion of one of Lehigh County's most distinguished families, died in Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia, August 3, 1936.
The son of the late John Franklin and Margaret Dodson Conner Kress, he was born in Slatington and attended the schools of that borough. Later he attended the schools of Centralia, was graduated from the Centralia High School in 1886 and prepared for medical school at the Dickinson Seminary in Williamsport. He was graduated from the Jefferson Medical College in 1895.
In 1900 he came to Allentown, where he began his practice at 636 Hamilton Street, later moving to his offices at 24 South Seventh Street, where he practiced his profession continuously until he became ill late in the spring of 1936.
Fraternally Dr. Kress was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Society of the War of 1812, the Sons of Union Veterans, the Military Order of the Loyal Legion, the Elks, the Livingston Club and the Lehigh County Historical Society. His professional affiliations included membership in the American Medical Association, the Medical Society of the State of Pennsylvania, the Lehigh County and the Lehigh Valley Medical Associations. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his widow, one son, Samuel J. Kress, of Short Hills, N. J.; two daughters. Catherine and Margaret Kress, at home; one grandson, Samuel J. Kress, Jr.; a sister, Mrs. J. P. Williams, of Allentown, and three brothers, Samuel H. Kress, Claude W. Kress and Rush H. Kress, all of New York City.
