Charles E. Diehl, one of Egypt's most respected residents, died at 7 o'clock yesterday morning at his home, the residence of his son, Marcus C. Diehl, Main street, Egypt, a victim of pneumonia. He was aged 66 years and had been ill little more than a week. For the past four years Mr. Diehl was employed as a mail messenger carrying mail between the Egypt and Cementon post offices. Prior to being appointed to that position he was employed as a cooper by the Lehigh Portland Cement company for twenty-five years. He was a member of the Reformed congregation of the Egypt church and for many years served the congregation in its various activities and also served in various offices of the consistory at different times holding office as elder, deacon and trustee. He was also a member of Egypt Castle, No. 510, Knights of the Golden Eagle, and Allen Council, No. 753, Jr. O.U.A.M., the latter of this city. He was born in Upper Milford township, a son of the late Nathan and Lucy Steininger Diehl. His wife, Catherine P., nee Steckel, died eight years ago. He is survived by two sons, Lloyd E. and Marcus C., of Egypt; a daughter, Mrs. Edward Benner, this city; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild; a brother, William Diehl, Emaus; a sister, Mrs. George Carl, Emaus, and a half-sister, Lucy, of Reading. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon with short services at his late home at 1.30 o'clock, followed by regular services in the Egypt church. Interment will be made in the Egypt cemetery.
