Misc. Notes
Dr. George F. Seiberling, 75, died in his sleep at his home, 956 Hamilton St., on the morning of May 6, 1945. He had been in ill health for three weeks.
After serving faithfully as a physician for half a century in Allentown, Dr. Seiberling retired from his professional duties on his 69th birthday anniversary in July, 1938. From that date until March, 1944, he devoted his full time to participation in the management of the Trexler Estate, of which he was a trustee, and his farm in the upper end of Lehigh county.
In March, 1944, he reopened his offices to care for his former patients after military calls for World War H had made heavy inroads into the medical profession in Allentown.
In choosing medicine for his career, Dr. Seiberling followed in the footsteps of his father, the late Dr. Frederick C. Seiberling, who was also a physician for more than 50 years.
After the son established offices in Allentown in 1895, he was joined by his father in 1899. The two practiced together until 1921.
From 1920 until the death of General and Mrs. Trexler, Dr. Seiberling was their personal physician. General Trexler in his will named the physician as one of the executors and trustees of his estate.
Dr. Seiberling was born July 5, 1869. He attended the select school at Lynnville and studied with private tutors. Later he attended Keystone Normal School, and the Pennington, N. J. Seminary, to prepare for his medical education. He was graduated in medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in 1893 and in 1894 took postgraduate work there.
He continued development in his specialized field of eye, ear, nose and throat work, serving for 15 years on the staff of the Polyclinic hospital.
Dr. Seiberling, who was active in Christ Lutheran church, was recognized as one of the outstanding laymen of the Lutheran denomination. For many years he served as a member of the Board of Foreign Missions of the United Lutheran church in America and at times was called into the councils of both the Ministerium of Pennsylvania and the United Lutheran church.
The esteemed physician took an active interest in the Lehigh County Historical Society and the Sons of the American Revolution.
His wife, the former Mary A. Seiple, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. S. C. Seiple, Centre Square, and his two sisters, Miss Catherine H. and Miss Addle L. L. Seiberling, survived him.
He was buried in the family plot at Ziegel's church.
