JAMES W. PETERS, a son of Nerl and Serena (Scheirer) Peter, was born at Egypt.. January 16, 1864, and attended the public schools of Whitehall township. He was employed on his father's farm until eighteen years of age; was then employed on the Breinig brothers' farm for two years and later was a clerk in the employ of P. E. Stem & Company at Stempton, Pa. In the spring of 1886 he removed to Minneapolis, MN., and in the fall of the same year removed to Cadott. Wis., where he was a clerk in a store for three years. Later he returned to his native state, remaining there two weeks, and then went to Hammond, Ia., where he engaged in the grocery business for one year. He then traveled through the Western states and returning to Egypt, his native town, to engage in business and continued there to the present time. In 1901 he was married to Clara Kohler, daughter of Lewis and Pauline (Newhard) Kohler, and their children were: Helen, who died in early childhood, and James W., Jr. Mr. Peters and his family reside at Egypt, where they are members of the Reformed Church. Mr. Peters is a director of the Lehigh Bank, at Catasauqua, and treasurer of the Egypt Cemetery Association. He is a member of the Odd Fellows lodge and Knights of the Golden Eagle, of Allentown. He is a Republican in politics.
