JAMES S. PETER, son of Alexander and Elizabeth (Peter) Peter, was born February 27. 1858, at Best Station. Lehigh County. He was reared to farm life and assisted his father in conducting a store and hotel. He was educated in the public schools and the Keystone Normal School. After his father's decease, in 1898, he succeeded to the business which his father had established at an early day. He has served for fifteen years as Justice of the Peace of Washington Township. In politics Mr. Peter is a Democrat. In 1905 he was elected a county commissioner of Lehigh County, serving three years with credit to himself and his constituents. He successfully conducts Peter's general store in Washington Township and also owns a large farm. He is married and has children.
