Samuel B. Kern, the second son of Benjamin and Sallie A. (Newhard) Kern, was born May 8, 1884. He was educated in the public schools and the high school at Slatington, graduating in 1901. He attended the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, graduating in 1905. He then became a clerk in a Philadelphia drug store, and upon his return to Slatington, he became the manager of the Lehigh Drug Company, of that place, and about one year later purchased the Dr. John S. Mack drug store at 606 Main Street, Slatington, which he now operates.
