Weston H. Kern, youngest son of Robert and Julia A. (Peters) Kern, was born August 5, 1872, at Emerald, Pa. He was educated in the public schools of the neighborhood and in 1891 at the age of 19 years, he became partner with his father under the firm name of Robert Kern & Son, dealers in coal, sand, cement, feed, etc., at Emerald.
At his father's retirement from business, in 1906, Weston H. became the sole proprietor. He improved his plant in 1907 by erecting a coal shed 30x120 feet. In 1910, he built an elevator having a capacity of 1000 tons of coal, and being one of the most modem in that section. In politics he is a Democrat and was registry assessor three terms and tax collector, two terms. He is a member of the P. O. S. of A., and the Knights of Malta. In this order the degree of Past Commander was conferred upon him at Perkasie,
Pa., in May, 1911. He is prominently identified with the Grace Evangelical church of Emerald and its Sunday school superintendent since 1905. He is very active in all departments of church work and was for some years an exhorter.
Weston H. Kern married (first) Feb. 3, 1894, Flora Knecht, who died June 15, 1901, aged 26 years. He married (second) in 1905, Matilda Heis1er, daughter of Elijah Heisler, and sister of Rev. Israel J Heisler, of the Evangelical Church.
