Peter Kern, only son of David and Abigail (Lentz) Kern, was born on his father's farm, Jan. 28, 1845. His boyhood days were spent upon the farm, his time divided between work and. attendance at the public schools. He assisted his parents until their decease, when he succeeded to the ownership of the homestead, which he has since operated. In politics he is a Democrat; was township supervisor five years. His family are members of the Evangelical Church, of which Mr. Kern served as a trustee.

Peter Kern married, in 1866, Madina Neff, daughter of Elias and Lydia Ann (Mosser) Neff.
