Stephen Rhoads, son of Peter, Jr., was born in Allentown, May 27, 1810. He was educated in John Ryan's English school and the Allentown Academy, and after assisting his father in his business for some years devoted his time to the cultivation of the family farm of 130 acres, embracing what is now Clifford Park, and the Lehigh nurseries. He resided at the southeast corner of Seventh and Linden streets, in a stone house on a lot 90 by 230 feet, from 1831 to 1845, when he built a brick house at 117 North Seventh street, where he resided until 1871, when he purchased the property at 340 and 342 North Seventh street. He died at the latter place on Aug. 28, 1876. He married, April 3, 1831, Keren H., daughter of Peter Newhard. She was born July 25, 1810, and died Oct. 7. 1880. They had ten children.
