One of Allentown's well known educators, Lucy M. Blumer, who for almost 50 years served in the public schools of the city, died on Dec. 17, 1940, at her home. 406 N. 6th St. She had been ill more than a year. Miss Blumer, who had been principal of the Stevens school for 15 years, retired in 1939: She spent nearly all her life in the house in which she died, outside of a brief period during which she resided at the Americus hotel.

A member of one of Lehigh county's most prominent families, she was a great-great-granddaughter of the Rev. Abraham Blumer, who was pastor of Zion Reformed church at the time the Liberty Bell was brought here during the Revolutionary War for safe keeping. She was also a descendant of John Jacob Mickley, who brought the bell to the city.

Miss Blumer's father, Jacob A. Blumer, was a prominent businessman in this city, having served as teller and cashier at the First National bank and also as city treasurer. He was also a former business manager of the Chronicle and News. Her mother was the former Susan R. Wieder.

A native Allentonian, she was graduated from the Allentown High school, after which she studied teaching courses at Muhlenberg college and Lehigh university.

Known to a wide circle of friends, she was a member of the Women Teachers club and of St. John's Reformed church.

A sister, Emily Blumer, also a schoolteacher, died seven years ago. Lucy Blumer was the last member of her family.
