Mrs. S. Benjamin Costenbader, one of Slatington's prominent clubwomen, and wife of the president of the Citizen's National bank, in Slatington, died August 9, 1944 at her home, 446 Main St., Slatington, in her 77th year. She excelled in dramatic reading and as a student in art in oil paintings. She was also the author of several poems, a few of which were published in "The Book of Modern Poems."
Mrs. Costenbader was a devoted wife and mother, and her chief interest was in her family, although her influence was far-reaching in the community. She was born July 19, 1869, a daughter of Henry and Elizabeth foyer Kuntz. She attended Wyoming seminary and was graduated from the Neff School of Elocution and Oratory, Philadelphia.
She was a member of the Liberty Bell chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Huguenot society of Pennsylvania, the Woman's club of Slatington, and was active in Red Cross work in World War 1. She gave the name of Victory Park to the memorial plot in Slatington. Mrs. Costenbader was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran church, Slatington; the Missionary society, Ladies' Aid society, Bible class, and the Lehigh County Historical society.
She had a daughter, Mrs. Leslie N. Karper, Carlisle; two sons, Elvin D., Slatington, and Walter G., New York City; a sister Mrs. Irene A. Ritter, Allentown.
