Erwin Burkhalter, son of Charles and Magdalena (Mickley) Burkhalter, was born 7 Jan. 1823 and baptized 9 Mar. 1823 at the Egypt Reformed Church in Whitehall Twp., Lehigh Co., Pennsylvania.1]
On 23 May 1847 Erwin Burkhalter married Sarah Ann Marks. Sarah was born 2 Feb. 1830[3], daughter of John and Anna Margreth (Kohler) Marck.
Erwin appears as “Irvin Burkholder” in the 1850 census in the household of his father (without his wife) in Upper Milford Twp., Lehigh Co., Penn.
“Irvin” Burkhalter was one of the executors of the will of his father-in-law John Marck, which was probated 15 Mar. 1859.[4]
Erwin appears as “Arwin” Burkhalter in the 1870 census in Upper Saucon Twp., Lehigh Co., PA: Arwin, 47, b. PA, farmer, real estate $18,000, personal $4,000; Sarah, 40; Eli, 16, spoke maker; Harris, 12; Alice, 8. Next on the census page is son Edwin with family.

Erwin Burkhalter died 15 Apr. 1897 and is buried at the Wellsville Cemetery in Wellsville, Montgomery Co., Missouri.[5] His widow Sarah died25 Feb. 1905 and is buried next to him.[6]
