Ichabod Packer was a patriot during the Revolutionary war and performed patriotic service as Overseer of the Poor, Overseer of Highway Layout, and Committeeman in the town of Guilford, Vt. during the Revolution while Guilford was in rebellion by defying the crown and electing their own officials. From History of Eastern Vermont. Citizens of Guilford were opposed to the government of Vermont separating from N.Y. Being loyal to N.Y. many suffered fines, imprisonment, & seizure of property. A petition was sent to the N.Y. Legislature seeking relief. The N.Y. legislature agreed to set aside land of 8 square miles. It was agreed that a tract of land bought from the Indians in 1768 included 40,960 acres, to be allotted to the sufferers of the pretended State of Vermont in a ratio proportionate to their losses. The land was named Jericho Township. In 1814 it became Bainbridge. Ichabod Packer received 214 acres on July 11, 1786.
