Frederick Thomas Agthe was born in Hokendauqua on January 27, 1886. Frederick graduated from Bethlehem Prep School in 1905 and Lehigh University in 1909. He had a degree in Mining and Geology and had a career as a Mining Engineer. He traveled a lot with his work, but lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for most of his life starting around 1925. Following is an article from the Milwaukee Sentinel from February 6, 1959, when he was named Engineer of the Year by the Engineering Society of Milwaukee.
ENGINEERS CITE AGTHE
Engineering Society of Milwaukee has named Fred T. Agthe "Engineer of the Year." Agthe is a consulting engineer for the AllisChalmers Manufacturing Co. He was selected by the organization's board of directors.
Agthe. who is 73, has been with Allis-Chalmers since 1924. Prior to that he had 15 years of engineering experience with mining concerns. A native of Hokendaugua, Pa., he is a 1909 graduate of Lehigh University. Agthe, who will he honored at a 6 p.m. dinner Feb. 25 at the Plankinton Hotel, is a past president of the Wisconsin Society of Professional Engineers.
He died in Milwaukee on February 24, 1971. He never married and had no children.
