RIDGELY, Md., Aug. 24. - The eightieth birthday anniversary of Thomas Lockwood Day, one of the pioneer settlers of Ridgely, a citizen who still maintains a foremost place in the political and business activities of the community, will be celebrated this evening by a four-generation family reunion and dinner party, at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. K. Shannahan, at Sparrows Point.
Mr. Day was born in Caroline County, on a farm near Ridgely, and with the exception of one year spent in Philadelphia, his entire life has been spent here.
He is a descendent of General Henry Hall Lockwood, of Delaware, a commander at the Battle of Gettysburg, and for many years an instructor at the United States Naval Academy, at Annapolis. In 1881 he moved to Ridgely, a town at that time of just 13 buildings, three of which were churches, and became interested in the canning of fruits and vegetables. In a few years he established the T. L. Day, Swing and Company basket factory, which he operated for a number of years.
Disposing of his industries, he has for the past 15 years been engaged in the grain business along with his farm interests. He has served as Commissioner of Caroline County, Judge of the Orphans' Court, Clerk of the Circuit Court, and in 1924 was elected to the House of Delegates. Mr. Day was a charter member of both the People's Bank of Denton, and the Caroline County Bank, of Greensboro, and still serves as a director of each institution.
He was married twice, his first wife being Miss Catharine Pastorfield, of Talbot County. His two children, Mrs. Shannahan and Mrs. Charles L. Herzog, are by the first marriage. In 1919 he married Mrs. Emma O'Day, formerly Miss Emma Stewart, of Talbot County,
The entire family, consisting of his two children, seven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren are expected to be present for the celebration. They are: Mr. and Mrs. J. H K. Shannahan, of Sparrows Point; Mr. and Mrs. Charles L, Herzog, of Baltimore; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Shannahans and Thomas, Jr., of Bethlehem, Pa.; Mr. and Mrs. Colgate McShane and three sons, Colgate, Jr., John Lockwood, and Baby McShane, Miss Catherine Shannahan and Jack Shannahan all of Sparrows Point; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Rennie and son, Glenn, Jr.; Miss Josephine Herzog and. Arthur Herzog, of Baltimore.
