Josiah Enbody, who was born on the old homestead farm at Berwick, Pennsylvania, in 1818, and died in 1881. He attended the common schools there, but at an early age accompanied his parents on their removal to Mauch Chunk, where he completed his education. He then prepared for business life by learning the trade of a boat builder, which he followed for many years. In his later years he was superintendent of colliers at Coalport, Pennsylvania. His political views were in harmony with the principles of the Republican Party, and he held the office of chief burgess in Mauch Chunk for several years.
