Review states:Sayre's marriage to Woodrow Wilson's daughter made him nationally known and since that time his record encompasses many fields. He has been a member of the YMCA in France during World War I, professor on the Harvard law faculty, Commissioner of Correction for Massachusetts; he returned to public service as adviser to Siam; as Assistant Secretary of State he worked on Cordell Hull's trade laws program; as High Commissioner to the Philippines he was evacuated by submarine from Corregidor; as assistant to Lehmann for UNRRA; as U. S. Representative on the UN Trusteeship Council; and as a representative of the Protestant Churches he has been in Japan for their Christian programs. Without anecdote or involved reflection Sayre surveys it all although occasionally he gives way to some intense sentiment -- specifically about his first wife who died. A long, cool look at a responsible, conscientious career.
