Misc. Notes
Thee record of births and deaths of their childrenwere taken from an old piece of paper labeled 'Family Record, Births" which had evidently been copied from a family Bible by James Harper McKee #14. It is terrible to believe that of 14 children, 6 died very young, from 12 days to 3 years of age.
It is not known when William Weir came to America, but as his daughter Jane was married in Ireland on 8 September 1783, it can be assumed that it was after that date. The census of 1790 for Washingon County, Pennsylvania, lists under a William Wier - 1 free white male over 16, 2 free white males under 16, and 1 free white female. But as the name is spelled differently, which was common practice in those days, and there is no way to account for the other children he had at that time, it is believed that this record did not pertain to William Weir #118. There is a letter addressed to John McKee care Mrs. S.E. Weir, 360 Arch Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, written in 1833, which is the only clue to the whereabouts of any of the Weirs in this country. It is possible that his youngest son James, married Esther McKee on 20 April 1811 and after her death married secondly Lucy Marye of Dumphries, Prince William County, Virginia.
