John I. McVey, 1944 Paul Avenue, well-known structural engineer, died Friday evening in St. Luke's Hospital, of pneumonia, following a brief illness. Mr. McVey has been a resident of Bethlehem for 15 years, was an active member of the community and was serving as president of the Rosemont Parent--Teacher Association at the time of his death.
He was born in San Bernardino Callf., July 1, 1891 , a son of the late John and Mary, nee Kelly, McVey. He is survived by his wife, the former Ruth Thomas McKee, of Catasauqua, one daughter, Ruth T., one son, John B.; two brothers, Richard K, and Lieut. James B. McVey, of Newport, R. I., and one sister, Margaret, of San Diego, Calif.
Mr. McVey was graduated from the University of California with the class of 1917 and entered the employ of the Bethlehem Steel Company on Aug. 16, 1920, at the Steelton plant. While there, he was associated with the drafting, estimating and erecting departments.
He came to Bethlehem in 1922., shortly after which he was sent to the Philadelphia sales office of the company, where he served from 1923 to 1925. He returned to Bethlehem in 1925 as a structural designing engineer and remained here with the company as a structural engineer. He was a member of the Saucon Valley Country Club and the University Club of Bethlehem.
Solemn requiem mass will be said Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock, in SS. Simon and Jude Church. Interment will be made In the family plot, Fairview Cemetery, Catasauqua.
FUNERALS
Solemn requiem mass was sung, this morning at 9:30 o'clock in SS Simon and Jude Church for John I. McVey, who died Friday in St. Lukes Hospital. Rev. William Cavanaugh, Rev. John P, Burke and Rev. Edward Bibson officiated.
Internment was in the family plot, Fairview Cemetery, Catasauqua. The pallbearers were Robert J. Cook, R. S. Taylor, Jr., S. C. Bradshaw. Winfield Daugherty, A. Newton Bugbee and T. A. Laux
