Court Records of Schuylkill County Regarding Hopkin
Thomas
Record No. 3, dated 9/3/1847
These are the deed entries
conveying five 20Õ8Ó x 130Õ lots (149, 150, 151, 152, and 153) located on the
west side of Rail Road St. in Tamaqua to Hopkin Thomas. These lots are presumed
to be the location of HopkinÕs future machine shop. Note that there is no
reference to a partner – Hopkin was the sole purchaser.
A close-up
of this location in Tamaqua is given here.
A more extensive map of Tamaqua in 1872 is given
here.
Note that Rail Road St. at that time is now named
N. Railroad St, which today appears as a major route.
Note that the year of the transfer
was 1847 and Hopkin Thomas is identified as be Òof Carbon CountyÓ. This implies that Hopkin had not yet
moved his residence to Tamaqua.
